New-school, urban Gospel group, Focus, was
formed in the spring of 2003. Rooted in Greensboro, North Carolina, not only did
they physically enter a new season, but embarked on a new beginning to an
incredible journey. The group, consisting of 13 anointed minstrels, led by
Gospel impresario, Todd Curry, would lay and continue to build on the foundation
of "pure" ministry.
The vision for TLC Outreach Ministries (parent
to Focus), given to Curry and his wife in 1999, would ultimately become the base
of this phenomenal group. As an ordained Elder, Minister of Music, musician,
singer and songwriter, Curry purposed to ensure that all of these elements would
work together, keeping God's intent of reaching people and saving souls at
heart. Even now, as Focus expands their ministry to include a music industry
career, Todd affirms that "God and the ministry will always come
first."
Standing as a vocal and musical inspiration in
its own right, Focus' style can be compared to that of Gospel acts such as John
P. Kee and New Life Community Choir, Donald Lawrence and Tri-City Singers and
Kirk Franklin. However, the most stand out fact about this group pertains more
to their character than it does to their sound. Focus seeks to bring something
new to an industry that has become increasingly tainted, parading righteousness
masked by corruption. It is with the main intent of dispelling negative
connotations of gospel music and displaying that it "really" is about
the ministry that Curry and Focus look to reach people with their music.
As the group has gone through God's purging
both as individuals and as a unit, they are now ascending into the greater
things to which God is calling them. While they will continue their work as a
"grassroots" ministry on the local level, they're now ready to go
"all the way" national for Christ.
Over the past year, Focus has encountered a
number of awesome experiences, all of which they attribute to God's Favor. They
have had the opportunity to work with one of Gospel music's most sought after
producers, Cedric Thompson and Tonex. In 2006, they completed the recording of
their debut album, "It's All Good", and held a local listening party
for a packed house. This project has become one of the most anticipated musical
projects that is on the verge of taking the nation by storm. While these things
were all outlined in the original vision, the group is truly excited at watching
God's plan and purpose for them come to fruition.
Featured singers on "It's All Good"
are Tonex and LeJuene Thompson. Tonex is a Grammy and Stellar award winning
artist. He has shared the stage with numerous other phenomenal artists such as
Patti LaBelle, Shiela E, Brandy, Boyz II Men, Missy Elliott, 50 Cent, Jay Z, and
Beyonce. Lejuene Thompson is a powerhouse vocalist that has sung with many
gospel singers such as Gospel's award-winning ensemble, Donald Lawrence and the
Tri-City Singers and John P. Kee.
Todd Curry's passionate writing style, in
conjunction with Tonex and Thompson's production prowess set the stage for this
masterful undertaking. Focus, a group of artistic and ministry-driven minstrels,
has been under Curry's auspices for just over two years and looking forward to
doing great things in the future, including performing and ministering
nationally. They have been on concert billing with Donnie McClurkin, Byron Cage,
Pastor John Kee, Donald Lawrence and the Tri-City Singers, Hezekiah Walker,
Tonex, Monique Walker, Micah Stampley, and many more. Also, they won two awards
for 2007 & 2008 New Artist of Year from North Carolina Gospel Announcers
Guild.
"It's All Good" features gripping
vocals, mesmerizing melodies and vivacious lyrics that will capture audiences
from all walks of life. True ministry has reappeared in the form of this hot,
new melodious project…"It's All Good."
